More info?)
If you need to identify which Windows 2000 is which, try the following.
Log yourself into the copy of Windows 2000 you want to keep and right-click
on 'My Computer'. Select 'Properties' then the 'Advanced' tab and then
'Environment Variables'. Scroll the 'System Variables' box down till you can
see 'windir' - the windows directory. This is where the copy of Windows
which you want to keep lives. It may well be 'C:\WINNT' and you might notice
one or two other system environment variables beginning with it also. Use
the 'Cancel' click-boxes to get out of that.
Now log yourself into the copy of Windows 2000 you do not want to keep and
do exactly the same thing. Hopefully, you will notice that the windows
directory is something different - maybe 'C:\WINNT32' or 'C:\WINDOWS'.
Double-check your findings before doing anything drastic !
If you just have a case of two windows directories on one partition, as
above, then you simply need to delete the one you don't need then remove
that option from the boot menu.
Log yourself back into the copy of Windows 2000 you want to keep, as an
administrator, and display the contents of C:. Open up C: and make sure that
you have your view set to display all hidden and system files. Select the
properties of the windows directory you wish to remove (be carefull to get
the right one) and ensure that nothing in the directory tree is set to be
'read-only'. Okay. Delete it. Before going any further, log out and back in
again to make sure that your wanted Windows 2000 still works fine and the
unwanted one has 'vanished'. Now empty the recycle bin, and then tidy-up the
boot menu.
If you haven't got the drivers for your graphics and sound cards, then it
would probably be a good idea to visit the manufacturers web sites and
download the latest ones now. Stick them on a CD or floppy, as you'll need
them sooner or later. In fact, why not make up a CD of the latest drivers
for all your system devices and keep it handy with your Windows install CD.

| Two thoughts:
| 1. If you can identify which of the 2 W2k system directories is for
| the system you don't want, you can simply delete it and all its
| subdirectories. You can do this from within the W2k you want to keep,
| but be sure you delete the correct directory.
| 2. You can go ahead any time and do a freah install. The W2k installer
| allows you to delete/create/format partitions as part of the normal
| process. If you do this, once you've finished the pratition
| formatting, abort that install, reboot, and do the actual
| installation; this will prevent unexpected "non-C:" system/boot drive
| letter assignment.
