TX950 compatible with P6TD Deluxe?

I just ordered the TX950 sine I was planning on installing a crossfire set-up with 2 SAPPHIRE HD 5770 1G GDDR5 PCIE cards, but then I just ran across a few articles on the web that say this power supply isn't compatible with this MB. True or untrue? Please advise ASAP as I might still be able to alter my order before it's shipped. Thanks.

I heard people mention problems with the P6TD Deluxe V2, but I just have the P6TD Deluxe does that matter?? Thanks in advance

The answer to your questions is yes, there has been a very specific problem reported and confirmed by both Asus and Corsair. It occurs when installing Windows. It's fairly well documented. Corsair is working with Asus to correct the issue. The last statement I saw from Corsair was that it was related to a design change in the new Asus motherboards that requires a design change in the Corsair TX950. It's a very odd situation.

Individuals who exchanged their TX950 for Corsair 850 watt and 1000 watt power supplies no longer experienced problems and were able to successfully install Windows.

Individuals who exchanged their new Asus motherboards for other brands also reported they no longer experienced problems and were able to successfully install Windows.

It is not clear how many different Asus models are involved. It seems to be related to the new X58 Socket LGA1366 boards. It's very confusing and frustrating.

You mentioned that you were going to install two Radeon HD 5770 video cards in your system. A 950 watt power supply is total overkill.

Here are the official ATI recommended power supply requirements for the ATI Radeon HD 5770 and 5750 video cards:

450 Watt or greater power supply with one 75 watt, 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended

600 Watt or greater power supply with two 75 watt, 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode.

The recommendations are for an entire pc system..

One of the Corsair power supplies in the 600 to 650 watt range would be an appropriate choice.

EDIT - I purchased my first computer in 1984. I have been upgrading and building ever since. I also build pc's for others. This is the first time I have ever read of a compatibility issue of this type involving a power supply and a motherboard. We usually read about compatibility issues between motherboards and memory. Those are fairly common.

So since I already have Windows 7 installed on my HD I shouldn't have a problem swapping my Enermax 525W with the TX950? IS that the long and the short of the issue?

Yes, providing it is the Enermax PRO82+ 525 W Power Supply. The Enermax modu82 525 watt power supply is also acceptable.

No that's not what I meant. I won't be reinstalling Windows 7 on this PC. It's already installed. I am changing power supplies from the enermax to the TX950. Will there still be a problem even though I am not doing an OS installation?

OOPS! Misunderstood.

The people who either exchanged the power supply or exchanged the motherboard are reporting the exchange solved the problem. Their pc's are running smoothly. People who somehow managed to install Windows without exchanging the psu or motherboard were still reporting problems. The problem usually appears during start-up but it can occur at other times. Since they are still having problems there is a good chance you will too. 🙁

How about the 750 and 650 models? I think that shop was out of the 850 and it you said the lower ones would suffice maybe I'll go with one of those?

Probably not is correct. Some of the individuals were not in the USA.

All other Corsair models are okay. You will not have any problems. It's just the 950. It's just one very specific power supply and a small numberof new Asus motherboards. I've never seen or heard anything like this before. It's really odd.

Corsair TX750W bought, Thanks for the feedback. As the new Power Supply was en route I got an email from Corsair saying that the 950 is now compatible with new versions of the P6TD deluxe motherboard. I do not know if I have a new enough board or not, but the swap had already taken place.
