There is a Type 1 tournament this weekend in Waterbury, Conn, USA which I
plan to attend, which allows up to ten proxies. Due to time, budget, and
card pool constraints I have decided to try something weird (what a shock),
so I'm looking at crossbreeding Suicide Black and Psychatog. My first draft
is as follows:

4 Duress
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Hypnotic Specter
4 Sinkhole
4 Force of Will
4 Mana Drain
4 Psychatog
1 Necropotence
1 Gush
1 Fact or Fiction
1 Ancestral Recall
2 Animate Dead
2 Cunning Wish
1 Strip Mine
4 Waste
4 Underground Sea
4 Polluted Delta
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 Sol Ring
4 Swamp
3 Island
== Sideboard ==
2 Chain of Vapor
3 Hurkyl's Recall
2 Dominate
3 Contagion
3 Annul
2 Stroke of Genius

I have the Animate Deads maindeck and the Strokes sb simply because I think
there will be enough creatures that I should be able to Animate SOMETHING
useable, and if I face Dragon hopefully I can combo out a win with their own
Dragon by making them draw more cards than they have 😀 Otherwise, I can
Stroke myself for as much as I need, and Animate a countered/dead Tog if
need be.

Any suggestions are welcome

There other options out there. They too can be cheap. Try MUC or even
Affinity.

Umm.. what's MUC? And Affinity would eat up half the proxies just on Power
alone. As is, I'm looking at replacing the Hymns with Accumulated
Knowledges, and the Sinkholes with 2xIntuition + 1xMind Twist + (1xCunning
Wish or 1xTime Walk), as well as possibly replacing Mana Drains with
Circular Logic (odd choice, huh?) - although if I'm lucky, I can borrow some
of what I WANT to use.
BTW - are you saying you think the deck is a bad idea, or just suggesting I
look at other options? Either way I'd like a definite, but I really need a
reasonable deck fast.

I wish I could be more help with this one, but I never bought enough cards
backin the day to get any dual lands, and my best cards is a mana drain or
two, so I've never played any type 1 or legacy or whatever style tournaments.

I like Necromancy. It costs one more, which you may decide costs too much,
but I like the ability to play as an instant, and your creature doesn't suffer
the -1 penalty.

I also like Mana Drain + Isochron scepter. I don't think your deck would
really need a recurring drain that much, however.

I played an interesting game last weekend with someone that used the
combination of dual lands and Last Stand to great effect, since each land
would enhance two different attributes of that card. Completely different
than your deck, but it was fun to play (and lose) against, so I thought I'd
mention it.

good luck,
K

Another card idea: Foil. Type 1 is extremely fast, and this card could help
you stop their early turns. Of course, it's card disadvantage, but the
ancestral will fix that right up.

You don't have to run duals to have a decent deck; many monocoloured decks
are seeing play, and White Weenie seems to be gaining in popularity
considering commonly used cards like Disenchant and Swords to Plowshares.

For most creatures, I'd find the -1/-0 penalty pretty irrelevant. It might
add a single turn onto the clock, and more often than not the card gets
snagged for utility anyways (Welder or WGD, for example). The extra mana
sometimes makes a big difference, depending on what you're playing against
(two mana is easier to get to than three). Besides, I have Animates and no
N'ancy's, so guess which one wins =)

Not unless I had a permanent sink. Incidentally, I've considered Iso +
Memory Lapse, which is almost like 2,T: Gain an extra turn. =)

Yeah.. doubt something like that will see play tho. Rogue decks are always
feasible tho, if you can build a good rogue vs your metagame.

Thanks Kevin.

I had fun but I really majorly bombed.. I should be posting what happened
soon on www.themanadrain.com in the forums, either as an actual "report" or
a link to it.

Cool, due to the ability to read USENET offline, I don't usually check forums
on the web, but I'll have to go and check for the post.
