Typical new GPU releases

Hey guys!

I was planning on awaiting the new GTX 1080Ti that has been rumored for announcement this month. I have, however, never been a person to follow a rumored card and was wondering:
About how long after a product is announced is it (typically) made available to purchase? This is not including the supply of all vendors going out of stock on day 1 or aftermarket card releases.

Just wondering how they usually handle something like that. I can't see them not wanting to get the card to market as soon as possible.

I suspect they are delaying to see what AMD bring out at the high end. No point releasing a faster card if they already sell the fastest card.

It really depends. There are two kinds of launches.

The first kind is the kind that people usually hate. It's called a paper launch, and it's really only a release of specs. The company is still trying to get volume going on the product but they want people thinking about them. Availability can take anywhere from 1-3mo or even never in rare cases.

The other kind is the kind most people think about, a hard launch. Product is in boxes and is being shipped when the info is released. Usually some "price gouging" happens in the first few weeks, but then things calm down.

Considering that the 1080TI is just a better card than what we have now, I would expect a hard launch. As above however I wouldn't expect it until AMD is coming out with their new higher end cards.

Another theory. The last two x80Ti's (780Ti & 980Ti) launched about 10 months after the non Ti version. If Nvidia followed the same timeline we won't see a launch until March/April.
