I'm still playing Ultima 7 but I think I'm being stopped by a little
undocumented feature. I'm trying to destroy the Tetrahedron generator
and your cheat I have says you walk into it just like a moongate. I've
tried that a hundred times and it just doesn't work. I can't get inside
it. I've got the ethereal ring and it has been charmed by Penumbra. I
don't know what to do now as I can't finish the game if I can't destroy
the Tetrahedron. There isn't a dummy tetrahedron generator is there.
I'm clutching at straws I know.

Cheers
Bill

Are you sure about that? I remember there just being a teleport egg that
you needed to walk over to get into it.

You have the ring that has been enchanted by Penumbra?

I/We think he mentioned that in the first post... *thinks* ...though I
can't recall whether he said that he was wearing the ring, or whether he
simply had it in his backpack--it should be equipped (possibly in a specific
slot) to work.

Exactly. And the only slot where the ring can be equipped is on the finger.

I had already erased that message so I figured I'd just make sure.

IIRC one of the DAT files describe what items can be placed where -
READY.DAT or such.

I have Penumbra's ethereal ring which she has enchanted. The
tetrahedron generator zaps me with energy the minute I go into the room.
If I weren't wearing it I'd be deadmeat. As it is the Tetrahedron
generator can't kill me and I can't gain access to it, for some utterly
obscure reason that isn't listed in any of the walkthroughs. If I post
a zipped savegame would anyone be interested in seeing if they can get
into the tetrahedron generator using my current game status. The only
thing that seems possible to me now to explain all this is a software
bug or bad installation (although I've reinstalled the Ultima collection
version of u7 three times now).

I have Exult and U7 installed but I'm still in Trinsic because I keep
finding other new games to play instead of replaying U7. I wouldn't
suggest posting a binary to a text only group like this but if you want to
send your saved game to my email, I'd be glad to try and see if I can
figure it out or at least use the hack mover or something.

Sorry ... when I said post I mean put a savegame on a website and then
post a link to it. I wouldn't have posted the savegame on the group. I
might try installing u7 on a different machine of mine and see if I can
get into the tetrahedron that way. I'm sure it must be some sort of
game bug.

(Later). Well I was wrong about it being some sort of copy error on the
machine I'm using. I've installed the game on two other machines and on
neither can I get into the tetrahedron. I think there is probably a
footnote in anyone's Ultima7 FAQ for anyone who can sort this little
problem out. (Or maybe I should read as many FAQs and walkthroughs as I
can since somebody must have had this problem before me). I'm surprised
none of you dragons know actually.

Originally I thought it was because I wasn't holding the Orb of the
Moons in my bag (it was in the possession of a party member). That
didn't help. I'm sure I'll have some new ideas in a day or two.
Meantime I'll post a save game on a website so anyone interested can see
what is going on..

Thanks for reading this

I have put a zipped savegame up on a website. If you want to download
the game it can be found at

http://members.tripod.com/billjillians/game00.zip

An alias for that address would be

http://billjillians.tripod.com/game00.zip

Sorry about the pop up adverts that tripod has. You unzip the saved
game into your ultima7 directory and it will be the first game on the
list of saved games you get with the name "Dungeon Deceit".

Many thanks
BJ.

(spoiler)

To enter the Tetrahedron you must:

a) have Ethereal Ring on your finger (not in a bag). Yes, instead of gloves.
Go to Spektran. Speak to schizoid Sultan, then go back after his seat and
attack the Stone Harpie (a hard lady, but 8 people with Great Daggers,
Lightning Whips and a Hoe dispatch her with ease). Inside the Harpie's body,
take the key, open the vault, take the ring.

b) the ring must be enchanted by Penumbra - it must be glowing green.
Penumbra will be glad to ehchant you the ring at any moment after you will
visit her with it.

With this, just go inside the pyramid, you will be teleported to a strange
place with this nasty Ethereal Monster. Kill him - via a Glass Sword
usually - and you will remain there. To quit the place, click on a prism in
the middle.

You will be back in the dungeon hall with the ruined Tetrahedron. Find a
small pyramid and keep it. It is very, very imporant.

After this, Penumbra has no more headache, Mariah is 100% sane and sells
garlic for bargain :), Nicademus is 100% sane and is no more a thief :),
Rudyom's memory is also must better.

Many thanks for that but I had the ring on my finger, glowing green and
it was enchanted. I could not get inside the tetrahedron whatever I
did.

Anyway I have a new problem now. After reading the FAQ for this group I
downloaded Exult and installed it without reading the manual. Now my
savegame for where I had got to is gone. I thought I could reinstall
from the UC disk but it doesn't work. Is there anyway I can get back my
old game? Or do I have to play U7 all over again to get to where I was?

(Later). Actually I've been able to restore the old game by deleting
the GAMEDAT data and reinstalling U7 and starting a new game so that is
ok.

I'd like to finish Ultima7 but I may just start again with Exult and
take a few weeks to get back to where I was. Not that I'm looking
forward to doing the Test of Courage or fighting the Stone Harpy again.
Ah well. Think I'll leave it for now.

What would really help would be if somebody tried loading my savegame
http://members.tripod.com/billjillians/game00.zip and seeing if the same
thing happends to them. You'll have to use the original Ultima 7 setup
rather than Exult as I played the Dos version up until now. It would
help even more if someone would go into the Tetrahedron and then before
they kill the creature send me a savegame so that I can complete the
rest of the game. The only thing wrong that I'm experiencing is getting
into the tetrahedron.

Many thanks

Tripod doesn't allow this type of file posting, so no-one has been able to
download your save game. You probably have to create a web page with a
link to the zip file for it to work. If you're not familiar with html,
copy and paste the following (everything including and between <html>
and </html> in an index.html file and upload it to tripod:

<html>
<head><title>Ultima Save Game</title></head>
<body>
<p>Get the save game by clicking <a href="game00.zip">here</a>.
</body>
</html>

I've put your savegame here in case anyone else wants to try it out:
http://home.comcast.net/~macecil/game00.zip

I don't have a machine set up right now where I can play the DOS version
of U7 which I guess is what you've been doing. Exult saves off the save
games differently and the saves don't seem to be interchangeable. So if
someone with a old machine set up to play the original game wants to try
it out, there is Bill's save.

Thanks Michael.

Sadly I think most people playing Ultima7 are playing Exult so I've
switched to that game engine and have started playing again from
scratch. I've found problems that I didn't have in the DOS game but I'll
save that for another thread now.

Of course we do say in the documentation that savegames from the original
don't work with Exult.

Possible? Personally, I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be. Easy?
Hard? That's a different question altogether.
