Hi,
I was wondering, if there is a downside to launching Windows (7 in my case) not from a regular BIOS boot, but using the Ubuntu Windows 7 loader option. Since I installed grub on 14.04 I obviously cant boot Windows in the regular fashion and so I would like to know, if it is worth it repairing the Win install and renewing the MBR, or if it is the same thing?

Thanks a bunch
J

I'd suggest installing EasyBCD to check the Windows bootloader... if it detects a normal bootloader (pointing to the right drive letter), leave things as they are. As long as you have Linux in dual boot you should have no issues.. but when and if you remove Linux, before doing so, use EasyBCD to insure Windows will boot afterwards, and remove Linux by formatting the Linux drive. And in case Windows still doesn't boot, use the Windows disk/usb to repair the bootloader.

To answer your last question: Repairing Windows repairs the Windows bootloader... formatting the hard drive renews the MBR/GPT so it's not the same thing, but as I said before, you don't have to do any of both because Windows is booting meaning the bootloader (Windows) and MBR/GPT (HDD Partition table) are working normally.
