Ubuntu Hard drive issues

Hi...

Any help for me on getting ubuntu to recognize my hard drive? The computer came with Windows 8, but it is running Windows 7. I need the 'Guide for Idiots' as I am not a computer know how person, nor do I pretend to be one on TV. ;-)

just open the file manager and in the left pane click on the drive. Ubuntu will mount the partition and you can browse the file contents.
