Ubuntu issues

I'm trying to install Ubuntu, but my system keeps hanging or crashing. If I run 12.04 live cd as is, it hangs at the bubble loading screen. When I special boot with all options on, plus VGA=711, it crashes right as it says shutting down V system or somthing like that. The text only shows for a moment before I crash. When I crash, my system doesn't turn off, I still have to power it off, it just has a unresponsive black screen

A little more info would help, computer model and ram.
