Ubuntu resolution problems

I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on my Lenovo H520s and i am currently using my flatscreen LCD TV as a monitor. As the TV is a different shape to most conventional monitors, it needs a custom resolution. I have tried some ways of creating a custom resolution but the TV just displays the message "OUT OF RANGE". Does anyone know a way of fixing this problem? Thanks in advance.

what is the resolution of the monitor?

I think the TVs resolution is about 1870-90x1080

The resolution i tried to set in Ubuntu was 1872x1080
