Hi all!

I am setting up a new AMD build with an FX-8350 in a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Socket AM3+ AMD 990FX+SB950 Chipset http:// . I had heard that you cannot simply install a AM3+ CPU in this motherboard without you getting a regular AM3 CPU and going to Gigabytes website and installing the AM3+ drivers to the motherboard and then switching the AM3 CPU for the AM3+ CPU so it can finally work. I really just want to know if I can toss my 8350 in without having to go through that trouble.

Thanks!

The motherboard will require a BIOS update before that processor will work. Your best bet is to take the motherboard to a local computer shop and pay them to update it for you. Otherwise, you can pick up a used Athlon II X2, update your BIOS and then put it back on the market.

More then likely no you will have to update the motherboards firmware first. I also looked at that same combo and found i believe that that board requires at least the third revision of firmware to support the 8350. Sorry know it sounds like a pain. You could see if that board supports bios usb flash and download the firmware to a usb drive and flash it in. ( IF THE BOARD WILL SUPPORT THAT FUNCTION)
