I have an ASUS main board with UDMA 100/66 and am wondering

could i use standard IDE cables from an ATA133 machine to hook the IDE hard
disk to the board or would i need to purchase UDMA cables?

I have seen UDMA cables on ebuyer and they look very similar to IDE cables
if not identical

do i need to spend more or can i just take them out of my old ATA133
machine?

Thanks (In advance)

Chris

Yes you can use the cables they will fit and the drive will work, however
you will not get the same throughput from your old 40 line cables as you can
achieve using the newer 80 line cables.

You don't have to spend extra on some fancy quality cable. If the cable has
80 wires (count them 😉 ) you will be fine.
80 wires (40 of them connected to pins, 40 as ground) are needed for
operation over ATA33 (UDMA2). 40 pin 40 wire can only be used up to and
including ATA33.
There really is not more to it than that.

Yes. Question is a bit hard to interpret, but yes.
