I'm wanting to become a character art designer and i need to start building my portfolio. i have a budget of $750 for a PC including monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I need Photoshop, z-brush, and other tools. Please help me with a PC build, i'm pretty green on this subject.

P.S. running Unreal Engine 4, Unity, and others would be a major plus.

I'de say the above, but swap out the PSU for a 430w EVGA B2, motherboard to h97, and CPU to i5 4460 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302), and add a 750Ti or 260 with the difference. Price should come in about the same as the above.

(power=GPU performance)
1) Yes it does use 4600, and works fine, BUT:
2) You forgot z-brush, which works better with more power
3) You forgot Unity, which works far better with more power for debug without turning into a slideshow
4) You forgot Unreal, which NEEDS more power, especially during development

I guess the GTX 750 Ti won't hurt much then...

Solution

You guys are freaking awesome, Thank you.

Sorry to drag this up from the dead, but why in the WORLD would you recommend a server motherboard for a guy who wants to do 3D design and game development. The board has no onboard sound, the damn thing only has a VGA port and you're trying to tell him its good enough without a GPU.

If you don't know what you're doing then please don't make recommendations here, your bad suggestions cost real people real money.

Thank you for standing up for me. I had to eat $150 because of that. Granted i should have done more research, but whats done is done. now i need to see if i can return or sell it.

To be fair, most production machines don't have integrated audio, I told you to get a GPU like the 750Ti (therefore internal video connections are pointless), and you could have easily fixed the audio thing by buying a cheap USB audio adapter (or cheap decent USB DAC like a creative E5 or a Fiio)

Well I'm obviously not a well learned engineer. Hindsight is always 20/20. But whatever, i already made the mistake. There is no use squabbling over the past. I appreciate you saying something though. i wish i had paid more attention before i paid money.

Nobody knows all this stuff when they start out, and I'm sure you'll be fine on your next build/upgrade now that you know what to consider.

You weren't the person I was calling out, and I've had a discussion with him outside of this thread. You did make good recommendations, but that guy showed a full build which made it easier to believe. Generally if I don't agree with someones build and i know its a bad one I put together a better one and make it very clear its preferable, to avoid situations like this.

EDIT: Had to add to this, the PSU is kind of weak (350w bronze is JUST enough, its also probably pretty noisy, at least its good quality), and my main problem as well was the push on not getting the GPU without even realizing the very important fact that it only had a VGA port.
