UEFI BIOS OC Tuner question

I have an AMD FX-8350 and I want to overclock it and while I was struggling to find manual guides on OCing for my motherboard, I found OC Tuner which claims to automatically OC. I turned it on and am wondering, should I turn it off and keep searching for a manual OC guide? Or is OC Tuner perfectly fine for overclocking?

Thanks

Is it fine? Kinda.

OC Tuner in the BIOS of ASUS motherboards is basically an auto-overclock, or the best the board can do of it.
The problem is, it greatly overestimates voltages required for the relatively minimal overclock it gives out (Optimized mode is 4.3GHz I believe). This means more heat, more power comsumption and lower chip life.

When you overclock manually, generally you want to find the highest stable clock at the lowest voltage. Infact, most if not all FX-8350s won't require a voltage bump at all for the same kind of clock as the OC Tuner gives.
Most PileDriver chips will achieve between 400-500MHz on stock volts, my overclock can be a testament to that.

Have a read of this, it's the most...

Have a read of this, it's the most comprehensive guide to PileDriver overclocking and very useful for your first OC:

The bios in that post and my bios are different, I don't have digi+ which contains most of what it shows. Is it a motherboard thing or can I somehow get digi+?

Usually depends on the board, but most 990FX ASUS boards have it.
Are you sure it's not there? It's usually a separate menu hidden down in the AI Tweaker settings.

I have an m5a97 le r2.0 and yeah it's not there

Ah, I'm afraid your board lacks it.
It also lacks any kind of passive heatsink on the VRM area which pretty much means they're going to run darn hot even at stock. I don't think overclocking would be advised dude.
Along with just a single 4-pin for CPU power, overclocking can sometimes dramatically increase power consumption and a 4-pin might not be able to deliver such power.

I suppose in theory you can buy aftermarket VRM heatsinks, but I have absolutely no idea where to start looking on that one.
I would say overclocking isn't really an option here on this board.

Alright thanks
