UEFI wont book when adding old HDD

Hello everyone,
Im having trouble figuring out my new motherboard. I recent purchased a gigabyte 990fxa-ud3, i installed windows 8 in uefi mode onto my ssd. i have an old hdd i used for storage with my old motherboard that used bios. I installed windows 8 fine everything works but when i plugged the hdd in the uefi splash screen comes up and restarts and just keeps looping. The ssd is the only boot option i have selected in the bios all others are disabled. The old hdd does have windows 7 installed on it, maybe that is conflicting somehow? when i unplug the hdd the system boots fine.

any suggestions?

Uefi is natively a secure firmware. yes its detected the change and the old OS.
You can try enabling CSM (compatibility support module) and disabling secure boot.

Thank you for your response, CSM is set to always but i don't see an option for secure boot. The manual for the gigbyte 990fxa-ud3 is pretty much useless. not sure how to confirm im even using secure boot.
