Good for you. I'm still in chapter 2, huhh =( The game is fun but some monster just too tough.

Nvidia or ATI, it's all depend on what you like and system optimization

I used to think some monsters were tough also. And then my party hit the xP cap and they were all like 20th or so level. Let me tell you, after that happens even the end battle is a breeze. The ONLY thing I had trouble with was Kangaxx the Demilich. And I fought him right before the end battle so I was still 20th level. Jeez, the damn thing casts imprisonment once a round!!!!!!!!!!!

But keep playin, after chapter 2, the story line gets SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. Damn, what a great plot, i think ill read the novelized version, its just that damn good. Oh, and the ending KICKS ASS, Thron of Baal should be a GREAT add-on.

Look like my party have extremely low level =) Just lvl 8-9 now about finish the Temple quest (kill the unseeing eye and the shade liche). Just the shade liche (the one that give the golden arms & legs) is also very tough for my party (he cast something that make most of my team dead and then follow by imprisonment, achhh. I have to play like 10 times =) to be able to kill him. Beholders are tough too especially when bunch of them show up at the same fight.

I think the problem is my mages are too low lvl. They cannot cast any really useful speel yet =) but my main char (paladin) have really good AC and THAC0 (AC -6 I think and THAC0 of 7). So, I guess I keep playing until my mage can cast immunity or good offensive spells =)

Nvidia or ATI, it's all depend on what you like and system optimization

Oooo, yeah Kangaxx was a serious pain in the ass. I made it 3/4 of the way through the game and had a system crash and lost all my saves. I had to cheat my way through the second time around. Nothing too crazy but I loaded up on the stats and healing potions a bit.

Ever play Planescape? It was a seriously long game but it was awesome. I think it was the best story told in a game ever.

Blah, Blah Blahh, Blahh, blahh blah blahh, blah blah.

I went through about 2/3 of the PsT. Then I change the OS to W2K and cannot play it since =( PsT sory is very good and very unique. PsT is very long too and very texty. It take me like about 2 weeks to get 2/3 of the game. If me memory serve me correctly, I was at the crust or prison looking for an angle imprisoned there and the celes fire sword. always love this game =)

yea i started planescape and only got about a 1/4 of the way into it when i got bored from all the reading. hehe, that was a couple years ago so i might load it up again once i finish the expansion for bg2 (which comes out next week btw!!!!!)

also, I dont even know why you would try to take on the shade lich at such a low level. I waited until the end of the game to take on the liches and all but kangaxx were a breeze. (man freedom scrolls are soooooo coooool.) What I did in the game was do all the easy quests early and then wait to do the hard ones. The only hard quest I did at low level was killing the Shadow Dragon at about 12th level.

Also, MAKE SURE you get every spell that can strip away spell protections for your mages. In chapter 6 & 7 these will save your ass SOOOO much. Im talking about: breach, secret word, pierce shield, ruby ray of reversal, and the coveted spellstrike scroll you find at the adventurer's mart in chapter 5. I had my high level mages memorize 2 ruby ray's and 2 pierce shields as well as 1 lower resistance EACH. (Edwin and Imoen) That made the end game fights MUCH MUCH easier.

eh, i'll procrastinate later...

It's good to see another more BG fans around here. What was your characters class that you played with? I went the sorcery route. It kind of sucked at times because you want to play with all them weapons, but the spells have advantages. I might make a druid character to play the expansion with. They finally let them get their 7th level spells. Druids are ridiculously powerful in non dungeon areas.

Blah, Blah Blahh, Blahh, blahh blah blahh, blah blah.

Well, I went up to chapter 2 with a lvl 9 Kensai/Mage dual class (insanely powerful combo). I specialized in double weapons fighting with katana's (Celestial Fury)and war hammers (for Crom Faeyr of course). You can get thaco's below 0 REALLY quick with high strength. Not to mention high level spells. And if you have the bonus merchants, you can get the Robe of Vecna which gives you a base AC of 4 overcoming the lack of armor penalty. then go after Ring of Gaxx and a cloak of protection +2 and with an 18 dex, your AC is -5. Not bad for a mage.

But I beat the game with a lvl 21 monk (also insanely powerful). Her AC was -6 and her thac0 was -12 with 4 attacks a round and immune to just about everything. After the game was beaten my magic resistence was 73% (not including items). I cant wait for the expansion so I can improve my monk further.

I start with paladin even though it sound very strict (high CHA and also need high STR and mid-level DEX to be able to fight anything). But paladin is kind of cool ^-^ so I start with this current char (I just got the game about 2 weeks ago since I was not sure that BG2 will work on W2k).

My current char (lvl 9) have AC-6 and THAC0 of 7 and still use the Serevok's sword =) My figthers are kind of tough (all of them have -AC except Keldron with AC of 0 and THAC0 below 9) but my mage is real weak. So, I always get stuck with high level mage monsters (liche is the real headache when I first fight him and since I have no idea that I don't suppose to fight him at such low level (lvl 8), it take me about 10 times before I can beat him). Beholders are also problem when they show up in a group (I found 4 of them together once and they cast spell like carzy). I'm going to get the Celes Fury soon. Hopefully I can beat the guys in the Temple District (last time I got beat up badly =)

I actually used a paladin in BG1. They are cool as hell!! (Oh, and wait until you get the Holy Avenger.. HOLY SH**!!!!!!!) Also, unless you like the headaches of losing fights and reloading, I would save off on these quests (in order of difficulty) until higher level because in chapters 3-6 you get TONS of quest experience (I was leveling once an hour in every chapter after 3rd): the red dragon quest; Slaver quest in the temple district; Twisted Rune Tower (VERY TOUGH!!!); any of the lich battles, ESPECIALLY kangaxx.

Also, beholders throw rays at you, they are not spells. That simply means they cannot be disrupted, which sucks. And remember to always ahve LOTS of ruby rays, pierce shields, breachs, and the like.

eh, i'll procrastinate later...

Actually Paladins have thier bonuses later on. There are some awesome weapons and quests for the paladins. Not to mention that they whoop some undead ass. Undead can be some of the biggest nuicances in the game.

Blah, Blah Blahh, Blahh, blahh blah blahh, blah blah.

"And remember to always ahve LOTS of ruby rays, pierce shields, breachs, and the like."

Yep. I that was the first thing I did. Loaded up the editor and cranked out scrolls of those along with trigger. Compared to all the side quests in chapters 2 and 3, the main plot seems a little weak.

i disagree. i thought the side quests, although there were some good ones, paled in comparison to the main plot. the battles in chapters 5,6,and 7 just left in awe.

Anyone ever play the first BG? Man the sidequests there sucked. Almost every quest required you to deliver some messaged in some town far away. Then when you delivered this message they wanted you take something back.

I hate mailman quests.

i played bg1. in fact, i beat the game with absolutely EVERY SINGLE side quest completed. it took friggen forever, but i did it all the same. and yes, they were way too "fed ex". bg2 side quests actually had mini story lines, which was very cool.
