A buddy of mine is building a gaming PC. He has $300 to spend. He presently has a case, monitor, keyboard, mouse, HDD and the OS. He'd prefer to have upgrading capabilities in the future, so Intel is preferred. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Either this, or put a G3258 in instead and save some cash towards a gfx card in the future :)

$300 is not enough if you also need a GPU. This is the best I could come up with and it's slightly over budget:

So he needs PSU, mobo, CPU and GPU for less than 300$?
edit: and RAM... sorry.

G3258 you can OC the shit out of it even with a stock fan and it is perfectly suitable for gaming.
Good upgrade path, you could switch to a top of the line i5 or i7 later with the same mobo.
Cheap mobo that supports basic OC (it has unlocked multiplier, no voltage control and other advanced OCing controls).
Decent GPU R9 270x, that will run all games while decreasing some graphic details.
Solid PSU with room for upgrade (you would be fine with a 400W PSU but with the 500W you could put any GPU later).
