ultra fast boot, instant boot technical information

Hi !

All operatintg systems seem to boot prety fast wit SSD nowadays. But with my current Asus m5a99x EVO MB, bios booting and graphics card boot is still very slow. About 20 seconds, even with jmicron, vairous post mesasges disabled.

The modern MBs claim to boot to OS in 4 seconds... but It looks like there fair amount prerequisites: Graphics card suppport UEFI bios GOP, specific motherboard support, Bios version and finally specific software installed in windows 8.

Also, I get the impression, that fast boot does not necessarilly work in cases on restart for patch updates.

Is there summary of Ultra fast, instant, and fast boot technologies available from different vendors, like asus and asrock ?

So... if some knows what these technogies do I would greatly appreciate it.

So seeking answers to questions like, what they do - flash os snapshot into MB, or SSD), do they work in case of multi situation boot (windows, ubuntu), What are the full system requirements and what are the limitations, Why certain vendor provides bios updates for old MBs, and others don't, and does waht kind impact graphics card + MB combination have on total cold boot to bios (without OS specific accelarator)...

most manufacturers have similar SSD support, like the ones you listed there isn't much of a difference.

I read somewhere you can get up to 3.8GB/s in RAID 10, if it's true or not who knows.

Some manufacturers may have more SATA 6GB/s ports on their motherboard, so you can connect more SSD's.

Sure... so which one is best for multi OS boot setup ? And what graphics card I need to use ? Or should I switch to coreboot, to eliminate the bios lag.... Coreboot seems to work pretty will for android based PC's...

well for installing an OS, it is best to just have one raw storage SSD, not in RAID as it does boot out of RAID sometimes and that is really annoying, then you have to reconfigure it again. So a 256GB SSD is a great option for installing an OS on. RAID looks good on paper, but there isn't actually a big noticeable difference if you go RAID 0, RAID 10 There is quite a difference though. You can use any graphics card, the SSD's won't be effected.
