I want to build a pc for ultrawide gaming at 1080p and 144hz. Will a gtx 1070 be able to pull it off or do i need a gtx 1080.

I am still deciding between the 1070 and 1080 but what is the performance on each. I want to stay near 144 fps almost all the time

Games I play:
GTA 5
Project Cars
DOOM
Dirt Rally
Battlefront
STEEP
Battlefield 1
Team Fortress 2
Rocket League
Super Smash (Dolphin Emulator)
etc...

Here are the rest of the specs I plan on having for the build:
Ryzen 5 1600 (with H100i v2 Coooler)
16gb of ddr4 2400
2tb hard drive (7.2k)
120gb ssd
B350 Tomahawk Arctic
600W EVGA PSU

Budget
Around $1500 to $1600 (that is including the monitor)

Plus the monitor it will be powering:
LG 34UC79G-B -- http://amzn.to/2uJmf3W

Correction, it can drive 1440p 60fps at med-high.
@OP, if you want that high of a frame rate, consider a 1080.
The other various parts of the system can be greatly improved, such as the SSD, cooler, PSU and RAM.
If you provide a budget for the total I can offer some suggestions.

ryzen is not going to allow this on most newer games

you want an i7 7700k with a gtx 1080 specifically for high refresh gaming @ 2560 x 1080

if you want to stay with ryzen change the monitor to 1440p 60hz and get a gtx 1070

Better to have the power and not need it than to need it and not have it. Graphics are only getting more advanced as time marches on, so why not buy something that gives him a little longer lifespan?

What CPU can i pair with the 1080 or even 1070 that i can keep my budget within $1500 -$1600 (including monitor) while staying at around the 144fps on high or even ultra
