Unabe to access sign in on windows 8

My daughters window 8 laptop turns on and takes us to the background screen on the sign on page but we are unable to get the options to sign in. Tried the usual of turning on and off and ctrl+Alt+delete. The mouse works and you can see the cursor moving around.

Might try booting into safe mode, may have malware, if you can get into safe mode with networking, download and run malwarebytes
