Unable to access my external WD 1TB HDD

Hi All,

I have WD 1TB HDD, I can see in diskmanagement and as well in BIOS also but im unable to access the drive whenever I try to open the drive it asks to format the drive. Checked in other system also same issue and changed the connectivity wire also but no changes.

I have hell out off data in it im not interested in formatting. please help me to resolve this issue without formatting.

Use something like Active@ Partition recovery or Minitool Power Data Recovery to get the data back from the HDD. Make sure you don't write to the bad HDD though as you may end up writing over the data.

take it out of that external box and mount it like a regular disk drive in your computer before attempting anything.
If it still fails, then go with what pizza said.

Wery ofthen the external drive control unit (cheasy little print in there) fails somehow and you get theese issues.

That's true but I wouldn't put this failure up to a failed PCB just yet though. Normally the drive is encrypted so mounting it as a normal hard drive wouldn't yield any results.

I think it's most likely the partition table that got overwritten which is why the drive is showing up in both the BIOS and Disk management but isn't letting you access the files.

hmm english is not my first language but as far as i know the PCB is the board on the actual disk. The board i called cheasy is the SATA/USB one thats in the external disk box.

ofthen the issue is in that little board, either with its power supply or its conversion.
