Hey guys!

So I can't create/join a homegroup on my PC, it's been that way since I upgraded from W7 Ultimate where it worked fine. It's kind of annoying since I can't share files and have to transfer files from my pc to laptops using a usb. My laptops, 1 Acer and other HP all work fine. I'm dumbfounded by this please help. I can upload pics if you want.

THANKS

Homegroup is an inherent part of Windows 8, and if you can't even create a homegroup (forget about joining one for now), then there must be something wrong with your installation of Windows 8 itself. The first thing I would try would be to refresh Windows. Go into Settings to do that. If that doesn't help, then you will probably have to reinstall Windows. If you decide to reinstall, I would suggest saving an image of your drive first so that you can go back to that if the reinstall doesn't help.

Uugh! I thought it might be a problem like that and doing what you said seems like a lot of effort, but what must be done must be done! Which way do you recommend is the best to do this?

Refresh Windows in not much effort at all. Just go to the charms bar on the right, then click on Settings, then click on Change PC Settings on the bottom. Then click on Update and Recovery. Then click on Recovery. Then click on Refresh Your PC Without Affecting Your Files. Then just wait until the PC is done refreshing Windows. When it is finished, try to create a homegroup. If it still doesn't work, then you should try to reinstall Windows. That's a little bit of extra effort, but still not bad. It just takes some time. As I mentioned before, you should save an image of your drive before reinstalling Windows. To reinstall Windows, go to the same area as described above for refreshing Windows, but click on Remove Everything and Reinstall Windows. Everything will be wiped out, so you will have to reinstall all of your programs and data after the reinstall. Good luck.
