Hey everyone. I'm getting pretty desperate and I need your help. I'm not really a PC tech guy so please bear with me.

I've been using a couple sites to watch older tv shows/anime (Vumoo/9anime) for a long time now and out of the blue, a few days ago, whenever I tried to play any video on those sites, I would get a black screen and the ''This Video File cannot be played / Error Code 232 011''. For the past few days, I've done a ton of research in order to find the fix, but literally none of the solutions work. I'm getting desperate because most sites that list the fixes for that particular error code state that it's ''highly unlikely'' that none of the fixes would work for a user, signifying that at least one must work... Well, none of the fixes work for me and so now I'm here. 🙁

I asked a friend of mine to try to watch a video on those sites on his PC and he was able to watch them without any issue so I know for a fact that the sites work and their servers are not the problem. I think important thing to note before I get to the fixes and stuff is that I can play and watch videos on other sites like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram etc. without any issue whatsoever. I use Firefox and Chrome browsers. The error code persists on BOTH browsers. Why I'm mentioning this is because the last resort ''fix'' I found listed on the internet was to change the browser.

The list of possible fixes I've already tried that don't work are:

1. Clearing Cache and Cookies of the Browser
2. Using Incognito Mode
3. Unticking hardware acceleration option in the browser general settings
4. Resetting the browser settings
5. Using CTRL+F5 and CTRL+SHIFT+R on the sites get the video to load
6. Changing to another browser and trying all the previous 5 fixes on that other browser as well
7. Turning off the router and waiting for 10 minutes before turning it back on to force an IP address change

Those are the fixes that I found on the internet. Sadly for me, none of them worked. Some other proposed fixes I found were to get rid of all the browser extensions. Thing is, I don't have any browser extensions on either of my browsers. Then I tried uninstalling both Firefox and Chrome and reinstalling them but that didn't do anything either. But for some reason, all my bookmarks were imported back into my browsers upon reinstallation (I don't know what that's about either if I reinstalled them). So then I started racking my brain about what the possible cause might be.

Both of my browsers are up to date and they were up to date before reinstalling them too. My internet connection is stable and strong. I can access both Vumoo and 9anime sites just fine, it says the connection is secure, but when I choose any movie/tv show to play, where there used to be like 9 small picture screens and a play button, now there's just a black screen and when I press the play button I get the ''This Video File cannot be played / Error Code 232 011''. I have Avast Antivirus running at all times which blocks a ton of stuff on those sites. I thought that was the problem but I've had Avast running before too and yet I was able to play videos on those sites just fine. However, my Avast got updated recently so I don't know if that could be the problem. I guess it shouldn't be as I haven't found any article stating anything about the Antivirus software being the cause. Also I wouldn't have been able to watch videos on those sites in the past. And the last thing that I thought about was the fact that I had to install a new Windows Update recently so maybe that did something. If so, how do I find the problem? Could a Windows Update even be the issue that caused the error? If so, why am I able to play and watch videos on other sites like YouTube?

There was one other fix mentioned about disabling Proxy Server but after reading about it, it seems risky and unnecessary since my settings haven't changed in that regard. They're the same now as they've always been and since I was able to watch videos on those sites before, that shouldn't be an issue, right? What's bothering me is that just last Saturday I was able to watch the videos without any issue and then over night it stopped working. Other than the Windows Update and the Avast Antivirus update, nothing changed on my PC.

If anyone has any idea on how to fix it or anything, I'd much appreciate it because I'm literally losing my mind here.

Look in Reliability History/Monitor for any error codes, warnings, or even informational events captured

just before or on the date the error first appeared.

= = = =

Corrupted file(s) perhaps.

On your computer run "dism" and "sfc /scannow".

FYI:

https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-use-sfc-scannow-to-repair-windows-system-files-2626161

May find and fix something.
Thank you for the quick reply!

Okay I went into the reliability history and there was only an information indicating a successful Windows Update, nothing else. Then I used the sfc /scannow process in command prompt and this is what it says after finishing: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

Right after that, I did the DISM /online /cleanup-image /scannhealth command and the result came out as - No component store corruption detected. The operation completed successfully.

I'll restart the PC now, run the sfc scan again to see if everything is okay, try the sites and then report back.

Update 2: Solved, albeit more like a risky work-around.

I decided to disable Avast Antivirus for 10 minutes, then try to play any video on the sites and viola, it worked. So basically, with Avast Antivirus enabled, there's an error 232 011 which prevents me from playing any videos on the sites. Why that is, I don't know. My Avast has always been running the whole time and I was still able to play all the videos on the sites, yet after the new update, it's no longer the case. How to keep Avast Antivirus enabled without getting the Error 232 011 on the sites, I don't know.
