So here is my setup...
I have a desktop with a Asus P8 H77-m (with latest bios) a D-link Dir-850L router, and 2 Western Digital EX2 NAS servers both with 2 x 3TB HDDs in a raid setup. all cables are new and Cat6 and short. The Ethernet has the latest driver, and set to 1.0 Gbps full duplex.
Using software called "LAN speed test" I am getting 11.8910446 Mbps writing and 88,3225555 Mbps Reading.
I have been googeling settings and solutions like a mad man, so far with nothing to show for it....What am I missing???? anyone?????

Smallnetbuilder reviewed the performance for that device. You might get 50MB/s (400Mbps) max write and 80MB/s (650Mbps) read.

You can start by substituting a gigabit switch for the router (single cable uplink to the router) to see if that is limiting.

What speed do you get with a windows copy of a single large file? What about sync speed between the two devices?

The router I use is only used for the network, no internet, so do I need a switch??? I was under the impression that the router already served the same function as a switch, am I mistaken?? At the moment only the two NAs and my PC is connected to the router...I have never tried to synchronize between the 2 NAS servers as the setup just mirrors the master disk in my PC to each NAS (in the future one NAS will be moved elsewhere) I am using Vice Versa pro to mirror the NAS and PC, the speeds are around 6,19 kb/sec...so 50MB/s would make me very happy :)

It should fulfill the same function. I was just suggesting a test to see if it was a limiting factor. I am not real familiar with that NAS, but you may be able to create an iSCSI mount and see if that improves anything.

If not sync between the two units, what about an ftp between them? Or an ftp from your PC?

Just an update, thanks for all your inputs, I bought a PCIe gigabit network card, and are now way more happy with performance, my motherboard did have a gigabit LAN connection, but I just could not get it to work, guess it was some kind of driver problem....again, thanks for all your inputs :)
