Recently went through diagnostics on my pc that wouldn't post. After installing a new cpu I was able to boot again. Problem is that also involved a motherboard swap for a different model. At the time I didn't know this would cause problems in windows. First time booting into Windows brought program crashing left and right. I eventually realized my 1333 ram was running at 1600, so I took it down and changed volts from auto to 1.507. This has made the system somewhat stable but most programs still crashed. This was booting off my 250gb ssd with Windows 10. So far I've installed another windows 10 on my second 1tb HD that produced the same program crashing. I thought it was a bad copy so I now have installed windows 7, to find the same problem. Some examples of program crashes are:

Unable to install gfx drivers.
Unable to install any Web browser.
I was able to install my wireless drivers and cpu z, for some reason.

Unsuccessful installs always give a corrupted source file error. Which seems impossible since I tried the gfx drivers from the DVD and from the website. Tried all several times, stuck with internet Explorer for now.

Ran chkdsk with no errors.

Ran sfc, with corrupted files found but not fixed. Ran disk defragmente with 0% fragmentation.

Ram installed in system is brand new pacific sun 10600 ddr3 1333 2x4.

Have another pair of the same ram that I will try tomorrow.

I'm not sure if this is all software related, or if it's a ram problem. Must be drivers, but why do I have the problem before I can even install them? This is day 5 of 8 hours + working on this damn computer, when I'm supposed to be on vacation playing fallout 4. The no post thing was a nightmare, now I'm having insane software problems.

Really I'm looking for anyone that has been in the same situation with a mobo upgrade and Windows problems. And any idea why I can't get programs to install on either of my windows boots (7/10). Chrome already installed on win 10 ssd won't even open, no matter how many time I click. Haven't checked if the process is running. I'm honestly grateful for any help or advice on this problem, I'm at the end of my rope trying to get my system working again, we've all been there.

Also if you think my ram should be configured different and that's causing the problem. Or maybe the ram isn't compatible with the mobo? They keep giving me this brand at frys. I don't see why not.

AMD FX 6300
MSI 970A-G43
EVGA GEFORCE GTX 750 TI SC
WD 1TB HD(WIN7)
SAMSUNG 850 256GB SSD (WIN10)
ANTEC 550W
PACIFIC SUN 8GB KIT (4GB x 2) PC3-10600 (1333MHz) DDR3
240-pin DIMM

Thanks again for any help, much appreciated! I'm calling it a night.

Solution
That is really strange. Personally, I would recommend using DDR3 1600 memory on that motherboard. Frys should carry that (the one near me does). The Patriot and PNY branded DDR3 1600 memory that they have should be fine, and it is only $15 more expensive to get a set of those modules over the generic Pacific Sun DDR3 1333 stuff. Right now the Frys near me has a Corsair DDR3 1600 kit on sale for $55, and the Pacific Sun stuff is $45.

As far as checking the memory is concerned, you can download Memtest86+ from http://www.memtest.org/ and use it. The program is bootable and can be burned to a CD or USB flash drive. On systems that may have memory issues, you just boot it and let it run for a couple of hours. If it reports no errors, then...

That particular motherboard is also infamous for having problems with its north bridge chip overheating and causing stability problems. Many users recommend running it in a case that supports a side intake fan, like the Antec 900, NZXT Source 210, or Enermax OSTROG.

If you are not having heat issues on the motherboard, updating the BIOS can solve many issues. MSI came out with a BIOS update in May that only officially changes the settings for 200 watt CPUs, but it also has a few tweaks that seem to make it more stable for any CPU.

Solution
Thanks for the reply! I haven't been able to use the mobo long enough to experience any heating problems, haha.

I read about a guy getting no errors in memtest after a 16 hour run, then eventually just replacing the ram anyway and everything was fixed with new ram. I was reluctant to spend time on it. Since it all sounded like either ram or a corrupt os, maybe damaged disk to me, i decided to mess with the ram. Took one of my sticks out and I guess I picked the right side of the coin cause it seems like windows 10 on my ssd is running perfectly now. Although to make sure the bad ram didn't mess up the install on the other drive, I'm going to reinstall the os on my 1tb. I upgraded from another MSI board with the same AMD 3+, so do you really think i need to reinstall OS? I guess Im just going to run dual boot for a while and see how it works.

I don't really want to try the other ram stick, or both at the same time again maybe in different slots, because I've finally gotten to a point where I can use my computer. I've so far run some pretty intensive programs with no errors, haven't tried any installing but all my browsers work now. Haven't tried my games, that would be the final test cause that's all I wanna do haha.

So im definitely taking back the ram and getting a better brand, which do you recommend? Patriot and PNY are better than this stuff, but are they good compared with other brands?

Thanks for all the help man, We'll see what happens next.

Tested all ram sticks I had(2 new replacements and 2 from the old mb, all 4gb)

The other stick from the new set booted and looked good, but upon opening chrome things started crashing, firefox wouldn't start. That's all the proof I needed that the stick was bad. Tried both new for same result. Tried one old and worked flawlessly. Tried other old stick and wouldn't post. So I put the 2 Good sticks I had and now im running great with 8 gigs of ram! Im going to run memtest on these 2 sticks before I try returning anything, maybe even on all 4. If these 2 sticks pass, I wont even bother returning anything, even though I spend 50 bucks for one good stick of ram. I've been through enough already haha. Thanks again for the help man, looks like my system is up and running, finally!

It is good to hear that your system is running now.

The Corsair memory is the best that Frys carries. Both PNY and Patriot are good, but warranty coverage is easier in the USA with Corsair (if a memory stick goes bad after some time).

Good luck!

Well it was running great for a few hours, now I'm back to memory management bluescreens and memory exception errors everywhere. I'll return the ram I bought and get some PNY or something tomorrow I guess. Hopefully that will be the end of this nightmare. If not then it's probably driver related. I used driver pack solution to fill in the missing stuff. How do you usually handle drivers? Straight from the website right?

Yes, that way you get the latest stuff. Don't forget to check and see if you have the latest BIOS. MSI came out with a couple of BIOS updates that fixed many memory issues. The latest BIOS version for that motherboard is A5.

Went to frys and returned the Pacific sun ram I got, and picked up some Corsair vengence pro DDR3 1600 for only 5 bucks more! I was really excited to try it out, until I booted up and got a Critical Process Died BSOD before I even got to desktop. Now it just keeps restarting. Trying to load into my other hard rive with Windows 7 and it's running chkdsk. F*** this computer.

Also I made sure to change my ram settings to 1600 and 1.5v. Cleared cmos settings too.

Booted into Windows 7 okay, but I tried to access my ssd to get my gfx drivers and the pc just turned off, no BSOD. Not sure if accessing the drive is related. Now I cant boot to Windows 7 either, just restarting over and over. Can't even boot to safe mode, just has graphical errors and freezes while loading. Gonna try unplugging the ssd and booting.

I always make sure to wear anti static wrist band and am very careful about electro static damage.

Disconnected ssd and booted into Windows 7 succeffully, but just turned off after about 2 minutes. Think it's a psu problem? Shouldn't 550 be enough for the hardware I have? I really can't stand another trip to frys. Gonna try to trade out my gtx 750 for my old graphics card. An HD 5450 I think.

Also I updated my bios to version A5 as suggested. Today when I booted up everything was working fine with just the original 4 gig stick I thought worked. I shut down and immediately after installing this memory It started this. Actually I'm remembering seeing at check out that the ram was compatible with Intel chipsets, so I asked if amd was okay too, and he said yeah bro its cool. ill look into it.

Good news. Changed ram from slots 2 and 4 to 1 and 3. Throttled from 1600 down to 1333. Set voltage to auto. Reinstalled windows 7 64. Everything is now running smoothly. Doesn't bother me losing the speed, don't game that heavy. Thanks for all the help man, but hopefully this is the last time I post. It's been a hell of a week.
