Unable to install Windows 7 on a new SSD

When installing Windows 7 via USB on a prebuilt, it blue screens. How can I fix it?

It shouldn't blue screen at all....make sure the hardware is all good.

It depends on where during the setup and install process you get a blue screen error.

If it happens at the point or just before windows setup and install asks you where, or what hard disk device you wish to install windows to, it can be down to how you have setup the sata ports of the system if it has Sata ports, and the mode that is selected for the Sata ports in the motherboard bios settings.

You should set the mode to: Ahci
Also check if there is an option to enable detection of legacy usb devices, and the option is enabled in the bios.

Check that Sata chip set of the motherboard is enabled.

For the most part a blue screen error when running windows setup and install is down to the incorrect sata mode selected in the bios. A blue screen error is the result of windows not being able to see a storage device connected to a interface such as a sata port of the motherboard due to, Sata mode being selected where it should be as said set to Ahci mode.

The old hard drive was failing.

It still works but it wouldn't load many things.

I saved the important files and I wanted to just do a fresh install of Windows 7.

Here's what happens.

It says "Windows is Loading files..."
When it loads all the way, it says "Starting Windows"

Then blue screen.

The bios is old. 2010 old.

There is an option that was already enabled.

SATA controller: Enabled

Okay I figured it out.

One of my ram sticks was bad.

There was a 1 GB Ram stick in slot 1 and a 2 GB Ram stick in slot 2.

There was a PC Diagnostics installed that said that one of my ram sticks was bad. I toon out the 1 GB and put the 2GB ram stick in slot 1. I ran diagnostics and it said my ram was fine.

Now there is no more blue screen and Windows is installing.

Awesome you figured it out. Yeah generally blue screens are 3 things, CPU, Memory or hardrive. since it happen during installation, its not the hard drive (since your writing to it, not reading). CPU usually Freezes rather than blue screens, so the memory was the only real choice.
