Hello kind people,

I lost the contents of my laptops hard drive. Directly from Microsoft I downloaded a Windows Vista ISO. I still have my Vista key but I am not able to install the OS.

The ISO from Microsoft contains four files and they are:
autorun.inf
setup.exe
Windows6.0-KB936330-X64.exe
Windows6.0-KB936330-X86.exe

If I burn the ISO to a DVD it won't boot. Thinking the DVD drive could be bad I searched and tried using Rufus to make a bootable disk. The issue is I encountered is that Rufus says the ISO is not bootable. Basically, everything I search for online returns ways to burn a bootable ISO, not how to make an ISO bootable. In an attempt to get the install files in an environment where all they have to do is install I turned to my goto Netbootin that I use for Linux. Netbootin only does Linux. I ran across YUMI which people claimed did the same thing but included Windows. YUMI gave an error of "chain loader /bootmgr Error 15 File Missing".

I don't know how to make a bootable ISO nor how to install a non-bootable ISO. I feel like I have a drivers license and a car without a battery.

Thank you

Solution
Those are service pack files, not installation files. KB936330 is the IT pro version of service pack 1. You need to find a real Vista image.
Ooops. I should have known it was too good to be true. Someone told me that what I needed was posted as a free download on Microsoft's website and I was actually able to find what I thought I was looking for easily. I was expecting to see .cab files but I brain farted and it has been a while.

Thank you Falcon.
