unable to join plz help

hello everyone,
i have a laptop and a desktop connected via network cable, use dsl have it
disabled both use xp home edition, both have ipx installed start the game
multiplayer, ipx connection can create a game on either computer other on
sees game try to join on either computer always fails, read all the posts
tried different things any info would be great thanks

also to add firewalls are disabled, antiviruses are disabled also
