Do you get some kind of an error message?
I believe you can try a couple of things:
- Attach the drive with a different cable to another system. That way, you will rule out a possible driver related issue.
- Test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool. Run both short and extended tests:

- See how is the drive recognized by Disk Management and Device Manager.
