[SOLVED] Unable to quit MacBook pro

MacBook pro taking a long time to boot after silver Apple and spinner screen. When finally get to desktop I am arable to quit because the apple on the upper left corner drop down is empty.

Do you mean you are unable to quit an application? If so, press command+option+escape to open the force quit window, click on the application that is not responding, and click force quit. If this answer is not what you are looking for, please give further information on what you are trying to do.

I was able to do a forced quit by using control-apple-on/off button. Thanks.
Now what I am confronted with is that when I try to turn on the computer it slowly goes into a gray screen then the apple shows up then the spinner and it is stuck there.

I'm not sure about that one, but it seems like something that you should have Apple check out. They should be able to either get it fixed (possibly even right then and there), or they will be able to tell you what failed inside the system.
