Unable to record at 60 fps with Fraps even though I have the hardware for it.Any idea why?

Hello, and thank you for your answers in advance.Any idea why am I Unable to record at 60 fps with Fraps even though I have the hardware for it.I can run high-end games on ultra at 60 fps without problem but when I decide to fraps them, the fps instantly drops to about 30.Even non-heavy games like League Of Legends which I can run at 200-300-400 fps can't be constantly recorded at 60 fps.At more intense moments the fps drops to 50-40-30 which is super annoying.My pc specs are Intel i7-4771, 8 GB Ram and Nvidia geforce GTX 780.Could the problem lie in the hard disk?Would this be fixed If I set the recordings output folder on a SSD.I've used some programs like dxtory and OBS and I can record at high framerates but the recordings have different quality and file size compared to fraps so my guess would be that my hard drive's speed can't withstand the writing speed of fraps.

It's a common problem with Fraps. Because it caps your gameplay FPS to that of the capture FPS, most people want to set ti to a comfortable setting so they get high enough FPS for the game to play smoothly, and that causes tons of lag, esp at hi res.

What alot of people don't get is the capture FPS only need be 30 FPS for good playback, and as long as the gameplay FPS is a decent 60 FPS or so, it will still look good.

Fraps is very outdated in this sense. You should take a look at DxTory. It will allow you to capture at 30 FPS while the game plays at a much higher FPS.

You can use RawCap mode, where 2, 3 or more drives are used to write the capture files, or sometimes just one fast SSD will give you decent frame rates, depends on the game really.

The other alternative, though slightly less sharp in quality due to compressed hardware encoding, is ShadowPlay. ShadowPlay's convenience itself is a HUGE plus IMO.

Personally I would try ShadowPlay first. The ability to record the last 20 min of gameplay in 1080p at the touch of a button is a benefit that far outweighs any minor difference in image quality.
