Unable to recover Windows 10

I got some kind of virus which I was unable to remove later even with an antivirus. Therefore I decided to create a recovery drive(using a USB and create a recovery drive option available in Windows 10). These were the steps I followed after that:-

1) I put that USB stick in the port and booted my laptop through USB.
2) Selected Troubleshoot
3) Selected Recover from drive
4) Selected a clean installation

After this, the windows logo showed up with a Recovering from PC loading at the bottom. After reaching about 44%, I got an error "Windows failed to recover from drive".

When I restarted the PC without the USB, I got the error "Operating System was not found. Remove all the drives and restart using Ctrl+Alt+Del".

Please tell me how do I install Windows back. My laptop is Dell Inspiron 15r(N1150) and it came preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Premium. I updated it to Windows 10.

It's likely that the recovery drive is infected. Did you create it on the infected machine or a machine on the same network? Probably the reason why it didn't work.

For the large mess that this is created, you'll need to do a clean install of the OS. There's a guide on how to do this here:

You will want to consider an alternative backup strategy. Based on your issues, you might want to consider a backup utility which is encrypted to prevent infection of the backup. Something like Comodo Time Machine and RollBack Rx do this.
