Unable to reformat old OS hard drive

Hello,

I'm trying to reformat an old hard drive which I pulled out of my old computer. It had windows vista on it, but now I'm using it with my new computer which has an SSD with windows 7. When I go into disk management, the option to format it is grayed out. I'm not sure what else I can do, can someone help me out? What I want do with this drive is use it as a secondary storage. I want to store some programs on it. How would I do that as well?

You can try a diskpart clean on it then see if you can initialize it through disk management.
