I'm using a Acer KG271A monitor. When i try to switch it from 60hz to 144hz, it will black screen for awhile and then back to 60hz. Also on device manger it is called Generic PnP monitor rather than the model name.

unfortunately nvidia not playing nice with freesync displays is a known issue but it isn't an across the board problem, just a frequent problem. You may need to If your display is new you should return it for a g-sync version if possible...otherwise you may be stuck with 60hz regardless of the nvidia GPU you use...that or switch to AMD based solution.
It is possible. I have seen some free-sync display issues with nvidia cards at higher refresh rates. Regardless lets see if we can fix this. Go to nivida control panel by right clicking the desktop.

1. right click desktop choose Nvida control panel.
2. Under change resolution choose the 144hz as your refresh rate.
3. Click apply at the bottom of the control panel window.
4. lmk if this works.

I tried this just now, after i press apply, it will hang for a moment but nothing happens. I read else where to uninstall generic pnp monitor and followed it. Now there is no option for 144hz, only 60, 59, 50hz.
