Hi everyone! I have this very annoying issue that every time I set an SSID to my router and I protect it with a password it works fine for some time, then the default SSID reappears. That is not password protected so anyone can connect. When this happens the SSID I set up tends to disappear completely or even if it there the connection is limited... What can I do?? Any help would be appreciated!

Solution
Two options come to mind, either the router is faulty and needs replacing or someone is tampering with your set up.

To secure the router change the administrative login user name and password, using a complex password. Second, make sure that wifi protected setup (WPS) is disabled. Third, make sure the wifi is using WPA2 encryption then change and re-share the encryption key.

If this doesn't solve the resetting problem, the router may be faulty or someone who has physical access to the router is doing a manual reset.

thank you very much guys I appreciate your help. I tried what you say Pooneil, and so far so good. Now however the problem is that I can't get rid of the SSIDs I created in this battle with the damn router. I tried deleting wireless profiles from admin cmd but I still have them listed as available networks, moreover sometimes it is the older SSID of the same network that I can connect to whilst the new one is "limited"

I've experienced the symptoms you report before and in my case it was caused by not understanding how to save the changes made on an unfamiliar access point. Sometimes the manufacturer does not make saving changes or even the need to save changes obvious.

Good luck.
