Unable to successfully install Windows Updates on Windows 7 laptop

Hi

After upgrading my Vista laptop to Windows 7, I have have been having trouble downloading and installing Windows Updates.

Lately, when trying to download and install selected updates, the system shows no progress at all. However, somehow the system managed to download several updates automatically. They were downloaded and indstalled, when I turned off the computer, and configured, when I turned on the machine again.

On another occasion, when I turned off the computer, I had a message that 189 updates were being downloaded and installed, but after starting the computer again, I was told as follows "Failure configuring windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off computer."

Right now, it says 182 important and 47 optional updates, when I open Windows Update. When I view Update History in Windows Update, I can see all the attempted installations, but only 20 or so have been successfully installed.

WindowsUpdate.log is shown below. It contains the following text in couple of places: "FATAL: Failed to show download progress, hr=8024AFFF." I thought that might constitute a hint for some.

Hope there are people who can help with this issue.

I finally managed to have all updates but two installed by laboriously following the instructions given under the various error codes (8024200D, 8007000E, 800700E1) that are referred to by the system, when it fails to update. Therefore, I am not now in a position to verify the effectiveness of the solution suggested by you. But thanks anyway.
The two updates which I have not yet managed to have installed are MS Office security updates. The error code given for them is 80070663. I have managed to have them downloaded manually from Microsofts "Download Center", though not to have them installed yet. When trying to install, I have the error message "Der opstod en fejl under søgningen." ("An error was encountered during search" -- translation not necessarily the official one).

If you start the tool (shift-right click where you downloaded it while you are logged in as admin(!) and selectopen Command Window here ) and type WUInstall.exe /install it should at first search, then download and as the last step install them.

Aaronator, I think you misunderstood me. I have not attempted to employ your solution yet, since I have had nearly all of my updates (a couple of hundred) installed. I have just two MS Office security updates which I have downloaded from Microsofts "Download Center" but which will not install. Error message: Der opstod en fejl under søgningen (Danish). See my previous reply.
