Hi,

I have Windows 7 Home Premium installed on my Dell XPS L502x laptop. Offlate the security centre flags me that Windows Firewall cannot be turned on. When I try clicking on turn it on. It says "Action Center cannot turn on Windows Firewall."

I have tried turning on the "Windows Firewall Service" but that fails too.

In the event viewer, the events are displayed as:
The Windows Firewall service was unable to retrieve the security policy from the local storage. Windows Firewall will continue to enforce the current policy.

Error Code: 2147942413
Windows Firewall was unable to parse the new security policy. Windows Firewall will continue to enforce the current policy.

Error Code: 2147942413

I have tried following rectification:
1. Tried the Microsoft Fix-It tool. But it does not solve anything.
2. I have tried re-registering firewallapi.dll but to no success.
3. I've tried Tweaking.com tool.
4. I've tried sfc /scannow. It get stuck at 18% and does nothing.
5. I've tried adding GpSVCGroup into registery as suggested in one website.
6. I have checked my PC with MalwareBytes too.

I use BitDefender as antivirus. Please help. I don't want to use any third party firewall.

Solution
Run ADWcleaner, junkware removal tool and combofix from Bleepingcomputer.com
Then install Avast free from avast.com and run a boot scan and delete anything it finds.
Then try what you did before again.
