On my laptop, I tried upgrading from 8.1 to 10, but when I pressed the windows 10 icon at the bottom right of the screen, it opens the program. After that, all it does is say, "Please Wait" and nothing ever happens. I really want to try out windows 10, but I don't know how to activate it after all it does is do this please wait garbage. Anyone having the same problem or have a solution? Thanks!

Ok, thanks for the information. Will I need a product key to activate windows 10, though?

No, just make sure you run the setup from withing Windows (you can create the iso/usb then run the setup.exe from there).

Ok, I'm downloading it, but is windows 10 worth installing or are there still bugs that need to be fixed?

It seems to work fine so far, but if you are conserned you could always wait a few days/weeks before doing the upgrade to let them iron out any bugs they might have missed.

Is that not just an ISO? I would assume by using that form of upgrading. Windows 10 wouldnt know your Windows 7 key is a legit windows 10 key also. Only by upgrading through the reserved copy automatic download will it. Once you have upgraded to windows 10 from within their reserve system. Then your windows 7 key will also be a windows 10 key is from what I gather. Or am I wrong here? Now that I have reserved is my key already windows 10 ready?

If you run the setup.exe from Windows (DO NOT boot from a Windows 10 dvd/usb) it detects your install and you get upgraded to Windows 10 key (same as with installing from that widget). I upgraded both my desktop and laptop by downloading from that link and both installed and activated ok.

Ah makes sense. Know if after upgrading can I then make a bootable DVD and wipe my drives and perform a clean installation for windows 10 with my windows 7 key? Or is there a new key windows 10 assigns you?

You get assigned a new key (you need to extract it yourself though), although I'm reading around that you wouldn't actually need that key since when reinstalling on the same computer it detects it and activates automatically. Someone had problems with the new key being blocked after trying to do a clean install straight after the upgrade. So you might want to wait a few days and make sure you know what the process is before going to clean install after upgrade.
