unable to upvote some posts

In the past, I've noticed it was possible to upvote nearly any post, also in threads I didn't participated in.

Now, it seems to be randomly what posts I can upvote and what posts I cannot upvote.

For example this post: https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...ou-have-too-many-drives.3808787/post-23014339

That post is for me clearly the solution of the problem, but buttons for voting is simply not there, even if participating in thread. Therefore my question is: Is it supposed that other members than the thread starter shall be eligible to vote a post up/down ?

Maybe all the regulars need to swap the How to award Best Answer link in their sigs with this one

As the reason why you can't upvote that post is simple:
Its not a question.

It may say its a question but without the tick mark or the up/down votes its just a discussion in disguise.

This has been a problem since we updated software. We have tried to point it out, the box you put title in says to use Question tab but very few people notice and threads are started as discussions.

I can't do anything to fix it. Admin are aware of it but we can't change the default tab questions start on.

I have been changing every post I answer. I also went through the Graphics card forum last night and converted all of them to questions. Same applies to Win 10 & Win 11.

NO one asked me to do it. WE are just volunteers so I can't answer for what other mods are doing

WIth the update of forum software there have been some unintended consequences.

So the uvote/downvote feature is only on threads marked in the system as "Question". In the past all threads defaulted to this option unless the user changed to "Discussion". Now the default is the other way around, so unless a user changes it, or a moderator, thats what its set at.

I have changed that thread to Question to resolve that particular one. If there are others you see feel free to call them out.
