unable to write to my seagate external device

I took backup of my old files and folders on seagate external device 4 gb. However i am unable to modify any of the files when i atttach it to my laptop. The same files can be modified when connected to the computers from which i took backup. Please help.

You may need to take ownership of the files first.
I assume you can read them fine but not write or save them?
