Unallocated SSD in my laptop

The laptop I am currently using is the Lenovo Y400. The computer has around 1 TB of HDD space, and a 16 GB SSD. Recently my computer got stuck on the automatic repair loop, and so I just re-installed windows 8.1 on my hard drive. Now the problem is that the laptop says that the SSD is unallocated. My boot times are also slower (I'm guessing because of the problem with the SSD), and so does anyone have any idea what I could do to make my computer run faster? I think I may have to move the OS onto the SSD, but I'm not sure if that is even possible, and if it is I don't know how. Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot for you help! Actually, what I really needed to do was just, after installing the OS onto my HDD, I just needed to download Intel Rapid Storage Technology, and just enable it to be a cache drive!

No, the laptop wouldn't let me reset to factory settings, so I just put in the installation disk I got, and I installed it onto the hard drive. Also, if this helps, I got the error saying my drives were locked.

Also in the mail I just got 1 "Start Recovery Disk" and 3 "OS Recovery Disk"(s). And they are in order from 1 (Rec) 2(OS) 3(OS) 4(OS).

This is wrong. Lenovo uses Intel Rapid Storage Technology :

the SSD is a cache for the larger 1TB disk, it caches commonly used files and is not directly accessible as a disk when it is used this way. You'll need to install intel's RST. The feature you are looking for is:

no instruction with it?

Sorry, but I'm not really understanding that. In other words, is that thread saying that the SSD lenovo installed in this computer is useless and not supported?

It mean that since you did a fresh install without any of the Lenovo setup/drivers on the factory restore, try to follow the other person did to setup the SSD cache.

None at all

try booting from disk 1

okay, and this time i should install onto the ssd right?

You don't install it to the SSD, the SSD is setup as a cache to the HDD.

I'm really stupid, can you please explain to me what I should be doing right now. So right now I should install windows 8.1 onto my hard drive. Is this correct?
