uncalled floppy reads

About once per hour, my floppy drive attempts to read approximately 8 times in quick succession. It's as if W98 is booting up and reads the floppy first, and makes 8 quick attempts when finding no disk there.

If I'm playing music, it's interrupted during this time. Most other work I'm doing will not notice a 2-second interruption. I thought of disabling the floppy in the BIOS, but this seems too radical and perhaps dangerous.

Any thoughts on what this is...and how to correct it?

Thanks

Gary

Check your anti Virus software. Norton unless you uncheck it will check all floppies upon access and shutdown which can be a nusiance.

You could also go into the registry and do a search for
A:\
remove any instances if if.

P.S.
Make sure you backup the registry before making any modifications.

Thanks for your replies.
Not Norton.
Registry...hmmm. Over my head there, but I might just jump in...time to swim in deeper currents...lol. I'm not quite ready to face format c: & reload of everything...several hours of time for that.
Will let you know...again, thanks.
