the drive was 26% fragged and the win2k defrag tool says its done but the drive still has 14% fragged.
win2k's files > program files, docs & settings etc... are all alone on the drive so 14% seems to be a lot 2 me?

Try using <A HREF="http://www.executivesoftware.com/diskeeper/diskeeper.asp" target="_new">Diskkeeper 7.0</A> it works better that the default Windows defrager.

I second that. I have tried almost all the defrag programs and Diskeeper 7.0 is the best
and safest I have found.

That'd be pretty cheap.

i downloaded the trial and it defragged for about the same time as the win2k defragger does, after it is done it says that
"Diskeeper has completed analysis of this volume and found 6 fragmented files and 234 excess file fragments.

The average number of fragments per file is 1.02."

that is after installing > defragging > re booting > defragging. is that a normal amount for it to leave?
thanks for all the info =)

EDIT:
i just ran it on another drive with the same % of free space(well 47% vs 52%) and it did this,
"Diskeeper has completed a defragmentation run on this volume and there remain 0 fragmented files and 0 excess file fragments. (There were 169 excess file fragments before the defragmentation run, and now there are 100% less.)

The average number of fragments per file is 1.00."<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by Igel on 05/19/02 10:19 PM.</EM></FONT></P>
