First problem is that I bought a Dell computer- I know, I'm sorry. It came with a Nvidia GT 635 which is honestly so insufficient for games that it makes me want to (obviously) buy a new one. I was looking at the GTX 760 2GB version and was going to get it, but realized my current PSU had neither the connectors nor enough wattage to support the 760, and I can't replace it because it's a proprietary Dell PSU. Anyway, I just so happen to have another 300W Dell PSU lying around from an old XP computer I tore apart and was wondering if I could set it up so that the 300W PSU powers ONLY the GPU, and then the one currently in my computer can power everything else. Will it work or am I going to end up frying a brand new card?

Don't fret! You may be fine with any power supply you have! 😛

Try the 750ti. It has a really low peak of 75w and it has a niche spot for old computers/bad prebuilts.
It actually doesn't need an extra power connector to work.

Best of all, it can play many newer games at 30+fps on high/ultra :)

Can I power it with any combination of 3 molex connectors and 2 six pins? That's all I have left. Adapters are okay.

Awesome! Thank you! I'll be sure to pick one up. I was just saddened because I tried to run Unigine and I peaked at 8 FPS.

LOL that would rain on anyone's day xD

This should be a great step up, enjoy it 😉
