I'm looking for advice before buying a digital slr for the 1st time and am
hoping someone here can help me. I have a couple of months to research
before buying but am not sure which are the most important features to ask
about. I've read a bit about white balance, AF settings, ISO, megapixels,
and I can't remember what it's called but the speed in which you can take
the next shot. To tell you the truth, for a novice there is almost too much
information to decifer.

Currently I have a point and shoot Sony DSC P9 and although it's been great,
it does not give me the flexibility I want. It also takes a long time
before it allows me to take a second shot, often causing me to miss a moving
shot.

So can anyone tell me which are the important questions I need to be asking
or make suggestions on which models to look at for under £1000 or $1000?

This is a one off, one time buy, I don't have the money to buy a mistake so
all advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Alexandra

Wich is best for you depends on your needs. You only mentioned wanted to
take shots of action in fast sequence. Many digicams have the ability to
take a series of photos in rapid sequence, and that works well for
hard-to-time action shots. You just delete the bad shots and keep the good
ones.
