I just received/installed my new EVGA 1070 FTW. This replaces my Gigabyte g1 970.

Important parts of system :
Power: EVGA Supernova g2 750W
CPU/cooler: Intel i7 4770k @stock, with nh-d15 cooler
Memory: Kingston savage ddr3, 2x4GB, at 2400 MHz
Motherboard: Asus z87-a
Storage: Samsung 840 evo 250GB

On Display Driver : 372.90 (latest)

In 1080p, I tested out Crysis 1 on the 970 then 1070. I get basically the same framerate on the new one as on the old. There's a particular clearing in the game that you get to near the start, with the sun on the horizon. At this point on the 970 I get 50-60 fps. On the 1070 I also get 50-60 fps. I was expecting more like 100 fps rather than the same! CPU is only getting to 50C temperature, as is the 1070.

I ran Heaven on extreme/x8AA/dx11/1080p with new 1070 and got
FPS:
96.5
Score:
2431
Min FPS:
29.9
Max FPS:
201.8

I have yet to run Heaven on my g1 970, which I will keep until this issue is resolved.

All I can think of is bottleneck or the new driver being bad for Crysis.
Anyone?

Solution

Youtube is an unreliable source of info and you do not knw all teh variables involved.
Like i said, theres nothign wrong with your build. Enjoy it.

EDIT: adn btw, when you are CPU bound, resolution doesnlt relly matter ;)

Well first of all, your CPU will no way bottleneck that GPU. and also check to make sure your drivers for the GPU are up to date.

I was just researching, and a lot of people said that you should take out the GPU and then boot into your Intel on board graphics and then uninstall all of the nvidia drivers, then ones your done, reboot and then shut down your PC and put back your graphics card and then boot up to the PC and download the Nvidia Drivers again. It may not fix it but you should at least give it a try and see

That's no way to do it. If needing to refresh teh drivers one should use DDU to clean your current display drivers: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
You can try this, OP, but i don;t think it'll help.

Install and run MSI Afterburner to see what your GPU usage is in that scene in Crysis you mentioned and report back.

The iGPU driver could still disturb the nVidia/AMD driver.
This rarely happens but I did see already several cases, where one needs to remove the iGPU drivers and reinstall the nVIdia/AMD driver again and problems are gone.
To be sure that Windows does not try anything stupid to install the iGPU driver, it is best to simply disable it from BIOS.

I tried with the OSD of evga precision since I already have that. Gpu usage was 55-58% on this scene and went down to 49% after 20 secs of standing still in game. In the previous scene however it was ~90%, and a higher framerate ~110. Memory usage was only 1236 MB though, curiously (I have 8GB).

I will try the BIOS thing and DDU soon.

Like i suspected, that scene is very CPU intensive and you are not able to fully utilize your new GPU. I'ts all good, stop worrying. Adn no, you don;t need to upgrade your CPU. Some games are just like that in some scenes.

He said nothing about CPU clocks/utilisation so we don't actually know anything about the CPU intense nature of that scene.

For the laggy scene:

CPU: 18 %
GPU Clock: 2000 MHz
CPU Thread 8: jumping 70% - 97% (other threads only 0-15%)
Memory Clock: 4007 Mhz (must be the GPU memory..)

Don't know how to show CPU clock
So one core is maxing out at times..

Yes, power options is on High Performance, not power saving

Actually, we do. Crysis is known for this. Like i said, OP, don;t worry and just enjoy yoru build.
