Question Under-volting my CPU

Guys, I just built my PC, and it idles around 40C. However, during games, it goes up to 85C, which I don't like. I am considering undervolting it. I have a Ryzen 7 3700X and RTX 2070 Super. So, I need your suggestions: How much should I reduce the voltage? If someone else with the same processor and GPU has undervolted their system, please let me know the voltage value you have set.

I have a Ryzen 7 3700X that I used for a few years before upgrading. It was a relatively cool running CPU compared to my 5800 X3D, but I was using a 280mm AiO and gaming temps were typically around 55C depending on the game.

You may double check your cooling situation by ensuring proper attachment of your cooler and thermal paste.

If you have double checked the physical contact of your cooler and still experience high temperatures, I would recommend upgrading your CPU cooler instead of undervolting. The Wraith Prism cooler that comes with it is decent, but it simply does not perform like a good tower air cooler or 240mm+ AiO. Your boost clock speeds will also improve with better cooling.

It doesn't have to be an expensive AiO either. This dual-tower cooler should be a nice improvement over the Wraith Prism.

All that though, it seems unlikely you should be seeing 85C gaming. What game? What cooler? What is your ambient temp?

If you want to reduce temperatures, try a conservative undervolt for Ryzen 7 3700X (start with -0.05V) and RTX 2070 Super (-50mV). Fine-tune gradually, ensuring stability. Look up specific guides for your setup. I think this can help you and may resolve your issue.

My ambient temp is between 31C to 40C and I'm already using a dual tower cooler and I play games like rdr2, miles morales, amazing spiderman, uncharted, sekiroa elden ring etc
. So what do you say will it be better to change the thermal paste or to undervolt

To improve cooling efficiency when facing ambient temperatures between 31°C to 40°C, begin by replacing the thermal paste on your CPU. If necessary, you can also explore undervolting as an alternative approach. Continuously monitor the temperatures to ensure an optimal gaming experience.
