Underclock = higher performance?

Is it possible to underclock my cpu to recieve higher performance?
I know i know thst sounds pretty dumb but, hear me out.
So i have a fx 8370 (8-core) clocked at 4.3 ghz paired with a gtx 1070.
I moticed and heared that games usually dont utilize all of their cores so i was wondering if maybe if someone underclocked their cpu, a program such as a game would start using more cores to increase performance. Now is this just a fantasy or could this really be done?

No it doesn't work that way. If a game relies on a main core/thread or two and only spreads a bit of work to the others then that's how the game is designed. In order to change it you'd have to recode/rewrite the game.

In some cases you can park or disable a few cores if trying to squeeze the last little drops of performance overclocking say 4 of the 8 cores, it will use less power and generate less heat. Even overclocking isn't going to have much affect there. Fx have poor ipc and it is what it is. More cores can't be used if the program isn't designed to use them and when ipc performance is low, overclocking only helps a small amount.

The way underclocking would improve performance is if at the existing speeds the cpu was overheating or the vrm were overheating and causing a throttling problem. The cpu speeds are forced to slow down to counter the heat issue. In that situating underclocking is a bandaid to fix the problem of insufficient cooling or running a cpu on a low end motherboard without the proper vrm heatsinks or power phases to handle the cpu. A bit like driving a car slowly to avoid using the brakes because the brakes don't work, altering something else instead of addressing the problem.
