Underclocking GPU means more stability?

I am having stability issues with Gigabyte Xtreme Graphics GTX 1070. Its Default base clock/boost clock is 1671/1873 Mhz. When I underclock it through OC Guru. I am able to play any game without stability issues.

I tried with -200 Hz , -171 Hz & -100 Hz. Both -200 & -173 Hz from default values are stable enough for me(No Crash or DirectX Error). Even Unable to run 3Dmark benchmark. -100 Hz has some crashes but much less than default clocks.

Is it safe to underclock my GPU? Should I reduce the memory clock too? Will the memory clock affect temperatures?

They are separate pieces of silicon with their own min/max and stability points. If you check around you'll notice that not many of the factory overclocks include much of a memory overclock. Memory is more likely to be a problem then core clock, particularly based on your low temperatures. 2000Mhz (8000 Mhz) for GDDR5 is a lot more then I ever thought we would see, and then you have GDDR5X sitting at 10000Mhz. I would bring the memory clock down and try leaving the GPU clock alone.

66C under load is amazing, and it looks like it is staying at boost. Though if this was from a cold start, it isn't really relevant.

It is a good alternative though. It is a very much time consuming process so 5% less performance is ok for me without stability issues. Under clocking by 100 Hz is preferable for me. i want to know, is memory clock is related to GPU clock? Should i reduce the memory clock too?

Seperate pieces, I entirely forgot about that. Ya it was still boost but -171 Mhz less than previous boost. Gigabyte boosted it a lot and gave it 3 big fans. Thats why its crashing. GTX 1070 FE has base clock as 1506 Mhz, mine is 1671 Mhz. I think it'll be better and stable at 1500 Mhz.
