Underclocking Memory Speed for Higher Core Speed Cap?

Hey Guys!
I have a question concerning overclocking my GTX 1070.
Soo.. The card has 8 Gigabytes of VRAM, but my VRAM usage never comes close to hitting that cap, as I'm only playing in 1080p because of my monitor, and the fact that Nvidia only built 6 gigs into their RTX 2060 shows that you probably won't need more than that for 1080p gaming in the next years (which is kinda frustrating because that means one of the central selling points of the GPU means nothing).
And I'm asking myself: What will happen if I underclock my memory speed to furtherly overclock my core speed?
Will underclocking my memory speed use more VRAM, or does it change something else?
Does underclocking the mem speed even increase the max core clock?
Overall, how would you recommend a 1080p gamer to overclock his GTX 1070?

Usually one oc has nothing to do with the other. Slowing down ram won't use more it'll just use the same amount slower.

Sometimes going for an absolute max oc on core you wouldn't want to also try an absolute max mem speed but if it's stable at stock leave it there.

Best bet is play with both oced and see what performs best in some specific benchmark
