Hi,
I've got me a Radeon 6850 (standard clocks: 775MHz/1000MHz) in my main rig... which is a factory overclocked Gigabyte card at 820MHz/1050MHz
I don't game much at all... but when i do load one of my favourite titles every now and then, with just using the AMD's CCC, i set the speeds at 850MHz/1125MHz with a manual fan speed of 75%...
When i'm done gaming, i've been not only setting the speeds back down, but setting them lower then the card's default's to the 6850's default's (775MHz/1000MHz)
Ok, my question is - am i 'giving the hardware a smaller break' when i do that? is it causing any issues to underclock the card? or is it a good move, if i don't game much? it takes me two secs to make the adjustments, i figure hey, why not underclock my GPU while system does just standard daily tasks...
i know the core spindles down when not in gaming mode, but i've noticed it runs lower, when set lower at idle anyways (250MHz core in idle when set to 775MHz vs 300MHz core in idle when set to 820MHz), as well as the benefit (possibly), of lower clocked gddram too...
Cheers in advance..!
